ABOUT US

Located in Sierra Madre, California, MUNKA SWEET is a licensed cottage food operation specializing in small-batch dessert bites. Our offerings include dark chocolate salted caramels, nut butter bites, vegan treats, and other goodies. All of our treats are crafted by hand, sweetened with allulose and monk fruit, and made fresh to order.

HOW IT STARTED

Munka Sweet is the result of more than a decade of tinkering with low-carb recipes: keto ice creams, cookies, and a long list of dessert experiments, each one becoming its own puzzle to solve. The goal was to create the treats I craved without traditional sugar or sugar alcohols. The hard part: making desserts that were equally delicious was rarely as simple as swapping sweeteners. It was usually a balancing act of texture, temperature and technique, which meant lots of test recipes and never a dull moment.

Caramel, however, was the one recipe I kept coming back to. It was the treat I craved most, and the one that took the longest to conquer. After one bazillion test batches, I finally had a soft, chewy caramel worth sharing with friends and family. It wasn’t long before the requests started rolling in: “Can you do a nut butter cup?” “What about a Dubai bar?” Then it seemed only right to tackle vegan caramels and other chocolate-covered goodies. I mean, “Treats for Everyone,” right? Working with chocolate became a newfound passion, and the response has been amazing.

What started as a project to serve one customer (ME!) has expanded into a micro-confectionery that allows me to make homemade treats for a growing circle of health-minded folks. Our goal isn’t simply to be a “better-for-you” brand, but to make treats that are genuinely delicious (but yes, also better for you!). Friends, family, and community have been essential in supporting those initial pop-ups and helping spread the word about Munka Sweet dessert bites throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

We offer local delivery to Sierra Madre and neighboring communities, plus seasonal neighborhood pop-ups (often hosted at our favorite spot: The Baldwin Avenue Gallery).
